People that call themselves conservatives and then put them down.

I am very suspicious of people that call themselves conservatives and then put them down.
The typical conservative is indeed usually a man of very strong moral convictions. And one that is true to his or her beliefs.
Some one that has to ask, “What is a Conservative?” And then tuns around to agree with someone like Barack Obama just don’t sit right in my mind.
I would never thin that anyone could be both a “liberal and a “conservative” they are very suspicions me. Conservative isn’t a political philosophy. It’s a political position which is more the desire for no change but rather to hold fast to ones beliefs. Conservatives are not chameleons, they retain a belief that things are the way the are for some reason and that change may well make things worse.
If you are skeptical that people understand society as they understand quantum physics you should be very suspicious about grand plans, like Communism, that purport to have a large reasoned scheme that will fix everything.
I think very few people would call themselves "radical progressives" and yet claim to be conservatives. Too many people label themselves as “conservative” and or “liberal” these days; yet, some of them really don’t quite understand their meanings. But what bothers me most, it the person that claims to be a conservative and yet finds so much fault in the party and yet accepts Obama’s philosophy. For example, Obama’s healthcare plan. Obama proposes a $150 billion research budget for climate change. Now how can any conservative buy that one? Obama’s politics are strictly liberal, his opposition to the war and support for raising taxes on the wealthy, and his support of abortion and labor rights, falls squarely in the liberal mainstream of the Democratic Party. In foreign affairs, Obama stands defined by opposition to the Iraq war and emphasis on “transnational” threats, from global warming to disease and terrorism. But he is no pacifist; in his speeches he talks about opposing the war in Iraq he emphasized that he was only against “a dumb war.”
If you want a deceitful, smooth talking attorney with lots of money who places radicals first, poor next and completely ignores the “upper and the middle class,” then Obama’s your man. But don’t call yourself a conservative.

  1. Welcome to blogger! Good post. 150 billion for climate change? Wow. And not one penny of that will help our economy.

A middle-class tax cut will be one of President-elect Obama’s first proposals after he takes the oath of office, incoming White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said Sunday.

In the first interview of the first appointee to the new administration, Emanuel told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on “This Week” that Obama’s economic plan “at this juncture is based on giving 95 percent of working Americans a tax cut..”

“Over the years, the middle class has been squeezed consistently by rising costs on education, health care and energy, as well as a diminishing income,” Emanuel said. “You must have an economic program that focuses on them. … It was built on the fact that the middle had been hurt. And to have a strong recovery and a sustained recovery over a period of time means that the middle class must be the focus of the economic strategy.”

And that is exactly what Pres. Obama is proposing. A. Middle. Class. Tax. Cut.

That's a TAX CUT for 95% of the American people.

    Conservative isn’t a political philosophy.--my blog

Um---Wrong. Again. This is how the dictionary defines conservatism.:

    1. The inclination, especially in politics, to maintain the existing or traditional order.
    2. A political philosophy or attitude emphasizing respect for traditional institutions, distrust of government activism, and opposition to sudden change in the established order.

    Of course it's a philosophy.

It’s a political position which is more the desire for no change but rather to hold fast to ones beliefs. Conservatives are not chameleons, they retain a belief that things are the way the are for some reason and that change may well make things worse.--my blog

Wow! I'm glad you weren't in charge of the government when A CHANGE to the Constitution was proposed to FREE THE SLAVES and GIVE WOMEN THE RIGHT TO VOTE.

"Things" in the founding of this nation kept human beings with dark skin in slavery. But WE CHANGED. And that's change we can believe in.

  3. Very true, we have many pundits, politicians, and media types who claim to be conservatives, but are not. They are just as elitist as their liberal conterparts. Peggy Noonan and Arlan Spector come to mind.

  5. Shaw: That tax cut for 95% of middle class Americans equals about $65 a month (Yippee! go on a cruise!) in their checks. Go to your accountant, because on next year's tax return, you'll have to pay that back. That's some tax break from your Obama. Giveth in one hand and Taketh from the other. Just like his mouth, he talks out of both sides.

Answer this for me, genius, when did you ever get a job from a poor man? The trickle up effect DOESN'T work. Try economics 101. When you tax the top wage earners they will stop spending and the businesses will raise the price of their goods and lay off workers, which will HURT the middle class

  6. Obama may have cut given the middle income earners a tax break but all his other policies have raised the cost of goods making the so called tax break void.
Reality is that this isn't a tax break but a hand out. Many who never pay taxes will get money. If you already don't pay then you don't need a tax break. If you still are getting a check then you are getting welfare or perhaps rewarded for your vote.
The government of the USA was never intended to be a social engineering system. The founders were very clear as to the purpose and direction of government.
Rights for blacks and women were a hard battle in the original framers debates. The south depended on slavery and demanded concessions or they would not join the union of states.
Some lessons take time to learn and some are far more difficult to resolve then others. The point is that the constitution was amended and the error corrected in both cases. Both conservatives and liberals had to agree for these amendments to pass. You clear focus on lack of change would suggest this could never happen. The truth is that conservatives do change but it is slow and cautious. Each decision is carefully weighed with all pros and cons. Liberals tend to rush in and make changes then suffer the consequences of there actions because they failed to prepare for the consequences both good and bad.
Obama has rushed head long into this vast spending spree in hopes of saving what can not be saved. He simply prolongs the agony and increases the pain of the collapse while draining all money for dealing with the inevitable problem.

    Sorry I couldn't help it.

  7. To be a Conservative you must stick to a core belief. And not budge from that belief because of a misleader. I ask myself daily What would Reagan do?

  9. Great observation! I think we have to work harder at creating clarity about Conservatism and calling folks out who are colluding to undermine it from the "inside."
